Dirne Community Health Center
About Us
The original Dirne Community Health Center was the vision of Lidwin Dirne, a community activist from Holland who was concerned by the discrimination in the local health care system and felt compelled to work to meet the needs of the many non-insured in the area. It began in 1991 as a free clinic that operated solely on a volunteer basis for the non-insured residents of the community. Funding was provided through donations, and initial services included both medical and mental health care.
The Dirne Community Health Center received funding from the Bureau of Primary Health Care as a section 330 CHC grantee in November 2003. By 2004, the clinic was able to expand its staff of fulltime providers from three to five. Current services include a broad scope of primary care, including access to medical and mental treatment and 340B pharmacy. In addition, Dirne offers access to many services provided by collaborating partners. Plans for expanding services include the addition of a dental component and implementation of EMR.
